Tennessee Western District United States Attorney Kevin Ritz has stepped down from his position.
Ritz was recently confirmed by the U.S Senate to serve as a federal judge on the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Ritz communicated his decision to resign Wednesday to President Joe Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland.
He said it was a tremendous honor to serve in the United States Attorney’s Office for 19 years, and to lead the office the past two years.
In his position as United States Attorney, Ritz supervised the prosecution of all federal crimes and the litigation of all civil matters in which the United States has an interest within the 22 counties of the Western District of Tennessee.
He grew up in Memphis and attended Memphis City Schools.
Ritz said he and his family will continue to live in Memphis.
