The remains of a Kentucky Korean War soldier have now been identified.

U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Raymond Hall, of Mountain Ash, was a member of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Division, in July 1950.

He was originally reported missing in action on July 31st after his unit engaged in intensive combat actions against the North Korean People’s Army.

Hall was actually captured by enemy forces and was being transported north with other POWs, when North Korean guards executed him and 65 other soldiers.

The deaths would later be known as the “Sunchon Tunnel Massacre”.

Hall’s family was informed that his remains were accounted for in May of this year, with the soldier to now be buried in Calverton, New York on October 21st.

Kentucky Governor has called for state flags to fly at half-staff on that day.
