For the first time since 2019, a measles case has been confirmed in Tennessee.
The Tennessee Department of Health said the single positive test is a Tennessee resident who recently traveled internationally.
The individual then spent time in Kentucky during the infectious period as a student at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green.
Measles can spread through the air when an infected person speaks, coughs or sneezes.
Symptoms of the virus include fever, headaches, and a red spotty rash that spreads over the body.
Officials with the Tennessee Department of Health say the measles virus is highly infectious and potentially fatal.
