Skyhawks Come Up Short

The University of Tennessee at Martin football went toe-to-toe with Big South-OVC Football Association rival Southeast Missouri Saturday in a double-overtime matchup but fell short in the road contest by a final 45-42 margin.

The Skyhawks led by two touchdowns in the fourth quarter before the Redhawks charged back in the final minutes – including a touchdown with 39 seconds to play by the home squad to force overtime.

Once in the overtime period, the game continued its see-saw affair in a game which saw six lead changes. A 36-yard field goal attempt by the Skyhawks was pushed right, opening the door for SEMO who converted its 37-yard field goal attempt to walk-off with the 45-42 victory.

Head Coach Jason Simpson says the challenges for this season are just getting started.

UT Martin will look to bounce back with its home debut against United Athletic Conference foe North Alabama on Saturday, Sept. 14. Kickoff from Hardy Graham Stadium is slated for 6 for the Hall of Fame Game. You can hear the broadcast on WCMT at 5:30.
