For the first time this season, the Westview Lady Chargers overcame a multi-goal deficit to sweep the season series against the Dyersburg Lady Trojans with a 3 to 2 victory.
Westview (6-2-1) gave up a goal just five minutes in when Dyersburg rebounded a shot that was deflected in front of the net to jump on the board first. The Lady Trojans continued to be the agreesor, notching another goal with 10 minutes left in the 1st half, extending their lead 2-0 at the break.
The second half was a different story. After freshman goal keeper Kella Simmons swatted away a penalty kick in the 47th minute, Westview responded when sophomore Ashlee Brent dribbled the ball down the center of the pitch before hammering the back of the net with a beautifully placed shot off of her left foot. Brent scored her second goal of the half 18 minutes later, evening the score at two apiece.
With the match all square, junior Maddie Horton pressured the Dyersburg goalie into mis-playing a ball, which she collected and drove into the net, giving the Lady Chargers a 3-2 lead with two minutes remaining. That would be the final due to another excellent performance by the Westview defense.
The Lady Chargers will head to Shelby County this Saturday, taking on Lakeland Prep at noon.
