A traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a Union City man on weapons charges.
Union City police reports said a vehicle operated by 35 year old Trymone Derell Bell was stopped on East Church Street.
During the traffic stop for using a cell phone while driving, the smell of marijuana was coming from inside the vehicle.
A probable cause search then yielded a backpack, which contained a Taurus .9-milimeter handgun with a loaded magazine.
A National Crime Information Center check cleared the weapon, but Bell’s history indicated a felony charge of evading in Obion County in 2022.
Police reports said Bell was taken into custody for unlawful possession of a firearm.
