For the second time in as many games, the Union City Middle School football team showed a flair for the dramatic.
School Communications Director Mike Hutchens said Kinydee Taylor ran 48 yards for a game-winning touchdown with 14 seconds remaining to lift the Tornadoes to a thrilling 14-8 triumph over Dyersburg on Thursday.
The Twisters (2-0) had won their first game against Paris Inman last week thanks to a last-second goal-line stand.
Caden LeCornu tacked on the two-point conversion after Taylor’s deciding TD sprint to cap his stellar all-around night. LeCornu had a team-high nine tackles at his linebacker spot and also rushed for 43 yards.
BJ Boyd rushed for 45 yards, including a one-yard score on Union City’s opening drive, and recorded five tackles on defense. Jayce Mitchell had a pair of pass breakups and three tackles, while Camron Beeler had five stops, including two for lost yards. Taylor also snagged an interception.
Jorge Escobar and Asa Reid had quarterback sacks for the Twisters.
The Tornadoes will host Martin next Thursday in their next outing.
