Union City Director of Schools Wes Kennedy addressed staff members during their opening day of professional development.

In welcoming the staff and teachers, School Communications Diretor Mike Hutchens said Director Kennedy issued the call to “rise up and do your duty. Rise up and be peacemakers in times on conflict, and rise up with empathy and compassion during the long haul.”

The opening day also included the assurance to each teacher of a pay raise, a $150 Wal-Mart gift card, $100 credit in the school lunch account and items of spirit wear.

Game play during the professional development also resulted in prizes that included a Blackstone grill, new television, overnight stay at the Paris Landing Hotel and concert tickets.

The day started with a breakfast sponsored by Leaders Credit Union and Obion County Farm Bureau.
