Union City Man Now Wanted After Dangerous Pursuit by Police

Union City police are seeking the public’s help in locating a wanted man.

55 year old Sammie Barfield, of Union City, is wanted on multiple charges after leading police on a dangerous vehicle chase this week.

Officers were attempting to stop Barfield’s vehicle, after he was observed stealing a wallet from a vehicle at a business at 1630 East Reelfoot Avenue.

During the pursuit with multiple officers, Barfield traveled on East Main Street, Exchange Street, Dobbins Street and Church Street.

Police reports said Barfield almost struck multiple roadside work crew members at the intersection of Church and South Home Street, and did strike an asphalt roller being used at the scene.

Police Chief Ben Yates terminated the pursuit due to the reckless behavior by Barfield.

Barfield now faces charges that include seven counts of reckless endangerment, felony evading and burglary.
