A Greenfield woman faces a court date after leaving a dog in a hot vehicle in Union City.

Police reports said 19 year old Emma Reese Rickman was charged with cruelty to animals.

Police arrived at Hops and Barley, on East Reelfoot Avenue, after a call to dispatch reported the dog in an unattended vehicle with the windows rolled up.

The individual who reported the dog told police it was there when they arrived at 11:00, and was clearly hot and panting.

The police report said Ms. Rickman and her boyfriend came out of the restaurant at 11:45.

The Union City Animal Control officer advised the couple that it takes less than five minutes for a dog to have a heat stroke in a vehicle during a heat warning.

The report stated the actual temperature outside was 97, with a heat index value of 105 degrees.

Ms. Rickman was cited and given a court date of August 12th.
