So far, an outbreak of Listeria has not affected any residents of Tennessee and Kentucky.

The outbreak has affected 12 states and is being linked to sliced deli meat.

Thirty-three people have been affected, with two deaths also reported.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service have recalled over 200,000 pounds of Boar’s Head products, with most of the affected patients eating deli-sliced turkey, ham or liverwurst.

The Center for Disease Control says Listeria can spread through cross contamination on deli equipment, kitchen surfaces and foods.

Symptoms such as fever, tiredness, headaches and confusion can occur within days, or weeks later.
