The FAA and NTSB are continuing their work to determine the reason for a crop duster that crashed off VanCleave Road outside of Martin Tuesday morning.
Pilot Scott Rainey was dusting a small field when his 502 Air Tractor crop duster went down and claimed the life of Mr. Rainey.
The specialty plane is made for crop dusting and can carry 500 gallons of chemicals and 260 gallons of fuel.
Thunderbolt Radio learned the plane was considered new and had approximately 100 hours in the air. The body was sent to Nashville for an autopsy which is protocol for the NTSB.
According to Martin Fire Department Captain Kory Green said the plane is expected to be removed soon and will be taken to a terminal in Middle Tennessee where the plane will be reconstructed by the NTSB to determine the cause.
Weakley County Sheriff’s officers are maintaining the integrity of the crash scene and traffic is at one- lane on VanCleave Road. The crash scene remain active.
