The Weakley County Republican Party unanimously elected John Robert Freeman to be the Republican candidate on the ballot in August.
There were no other nominations from the floor. Freeman is the first Republican candidate to be on the ballot in Weakley County.
Freeman told Thunderbolt News he was overwhelmed by the support he received entering the caucus Saturday morning at the Republican Headquarters in downtown Martin.
Freeman said if elected, he wants to recruit more businesses and industry.
Early voting begins July 12th. 3 other candidates are seeking the seat of County Mayor. All 3 will be running as independent. They are Dale Hutcherson, Randy Edwards, and Danny Powers.
