Tennessee Farmers Facing Planting Issues Due to Rain

Tennessee farmers again experienced another week of wet conditions.

The heavy rainfall, which has occurred statewide, continues to delay fieldwork progress.

The latest report from the United States Department of Agriculture shows corn planting at 87-percent complete.

This stage of planting for the month of May is below the five year average.

The latest report also showed soybean planting at 60-percent, which also falls below the five year average.

Winter wheat is not far from the spring harvest, with the USDA reporting 98-percent of the crop in the headed stage.

The latest Crop Condition report indicated Tennessee wheat at 57-percent “good” and 23-percent “excellent”.
