Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Urging Protection Against Possible Tick Disease

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife is urging the public to take precautions against tick bites, which can transmit disease.

As temperatures rise, and more time is being spent outdoors, Fish and Wildlife officials say the chance of receiving a tick bite increases.

Whether a person gets sick from a single tick depends on the type, where it was acquired, and how long it was attached.

Lyme disease is transmitted by an infected blacklegged tick, and is a growing concern locally.

Anyone going outdoors in grassy or wooded areas is urged to use a repellant to treat clothes and gear, and to perform tick checks when coming indoors.

A tick is to be removed as soon as possible, with the bite site cleaned with soap and water.
