The Union City doubles team of Shelby Bondurant and Molly Kizer, along with freshman Emma Mobbs, have punched their ticket to the TSSAA Class-A State Tennis Tournament.

School Communications Director Mike Hutchens said Bondurant and Kizer return as the state runner-ups a year ago, while Mobbs made school history by becoming the first female singles player to advance to the Spring Fling.

During Regional play at Bethel University on Wednesday, Bondurant and Kizer defeated teammates Dani and Davey Frankum 6-3,6-2 to gain their state spot.

Mobbs rallied to take a three set match against McNairy County’s Caylee Stepp 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.

State quarterfinal play will begin next Thursday in Murfreesboro for both singles and doubles.
