In high school baseball Monday at Elam Stadum in Union City, Dresden High School came from behind to defeat Union City 7 to 6 in nine innings. Down in the bottom of the ninth 6 to 5 Cameron Schlict was struck by a ball in the head.
Landon Carter scored Schlict and Ross Finney hit the walk-off to score Carter to win the ball game. Schlict was announced as Player of the Year and Most Valueable Player.
Both teams advance to the Regional’s with Union City playing Halls and Dresden will face Bradford. The games are to be played Friday at Jeff Kelly Field at Wilson Park in Dresden with double elimination.
In softball Monday at Bettye Giles Field at U T Martin, Westvew High School earned their Region trip by defeating Gibson County 4 to 2 in a double header.
Westview dropped the opener 4 to 3 to Gibson County in the opener. McCall Sims had three hits and Sarah Beth Byars scored two RBI’s.
In the night cap, Molly Jackson had a pair of hits to help Westiew win the District title.
McCall Sims threw 11 strikeouts and helped improve Westivew’s record to 17 and 7. The Lady Chargers will play at home in the Regional at Martin Parks and Recreation next Monday May 13th at Westview.
