Union City impressively ran past seven other schools in Wednesday’s second home track meet of the spring.

The Tornado boys recorded eight first-place finishes on their way to a 201-point day, while the girls had five first-place showings in easily claiming the team championship with 181 total points.

Dyersburg was second in both the girls’ and boys’ competitions.

Adrian Crawford had the biggest day of any of the Union City boys, winning three events and being a part of a fourth first-place effort.

Crawford set a new program record in the high jump with a leap of 6’6”, breaking his own mark, set less than two weeks ago. Crawford also won the long jump and triple jump and was part of the 4X400 relay team with Kameron Shade, Maliki Brooks, and Jaylen Marshall, which crossed the finish line in first place.

Shade continued his dominance in the sprints, winning the 100 and 200 meters, while Brooks claimed first in the 800-meter run. Woodrow McKinnis led the field in the 1600-meter race, while Keaten Brown won the discus competition.

Blair McKinnis posted a new program mark for the UC girls in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:47.58, good for a second-place finish.

A pair of relay teams – the 4X100 and the 4X400 – captured first-place honors for the Lady Tornadoes. Nakyah Yarbrough, Aujani Moss, Indeya Hogsett, and Chloe Hubbard made up the 4X100 team, while Yarbrough, Sh’Nyla Moss, Jayla Turner, and Ca’Lae Ervin carried the Purple and Gold banner in the 4X400.

Ervin and Allysia Davis tied for first place in the high jump, while Debrionna Jones won the discus for Union City.

Head coach Wade Maddox was especially pleased with his sprinters in the competition.

“We had four of the Top 8 sprinters in the boys’, and three of the Top 8 in the girls’,” he said. “We were running into a 12-mile-per-hour wind, and our times were still good.”
