Memphis Foot Doctor Convicted for Defrauding Millions of Dollars from Medicare and TennCare

A federal jury in Memphis has convicted a podiatrist for a scheme to defraud Medicare and TennCare of millions of dollars.

Court reports said 59 year old Nathan Lucas, of Memphis, owned and operated Advanced Foot and Ankle Care of Memphis, as well as two in-house pharmacies.

Court documents said was prescribing and dispensing medically unnecessary foot bath medications and receiving reimbursements.

From October 2018 thru September 2021, investigations showed the pharmacies of Lucas submitted nearly $4 million dollars in claims to Medicare and TennCare for unnecessary foot bath medications.

During that time, over $3 million dollars in reimbursements were given to the pharmacies.

Lucas was convicted on five counts of health care fraud, and now faces a maximum penalty of 10 years on each count.
