Weakley County Mayor Jake Bynum has announced his resignation to become UT Martin’s Chief of Staff. Mayor Bynum formerly told the County Commission he will be stepping down after 10 years as an elected official.
The Chief of Staff is a new UT Martin position that will manage major university projects under the chancellor’s direction and will serve as executive director of the WestStar Leadership Program and will have administrative responsibilities for Ned McWherter Institute and will provide a link between the chancellor and several university groups and other duties.
At the Weakley County Courthouse in Dresden Monday night the 40 year old Mayor Bynum received a standing ovation in the packed courtroom for his leadership during the past ten years. He’s expected to begin his duties May 1st.
Mr. Bynum is married and has two children. When he was elected he was the first to seek the office as an Independent candidate.
