I-40 Plane Crash Near Nashville – 5 Dead

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities say five people were killed when their small plane crashed just west of downtown Nashville.

The pilot told air traffic control that he lost engine power. He said he could see the runway they cleared at the executive airport and they told him to glide in for a landing.

But the pilot said the plane had already descended to 1,600 feet and wouldn’t make it.

The crash just off the shoulder of Interstate 40 shut down multiple lanes Monday night, leaving the charred wreckage in the grass.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.
