The Uf T Martin women defeated Southeast Missouri 64-61 Saturday.

With the win and an Eastern Illinois loss, the Skyhawks moved into a tie for second place in the league standings with two games remaining in the regular season. UT Martin also put a bow on its road slate, finishing conference play with a 7-2 record in enemy territory, while sweeping the season series against Southeast Missouri.

In game 2 of Double Header action, a program record for Ohio Valley Conference road victories was established as the University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball squad claimed an 82-72 win at Southeast Missouri.

The victory was the seventh of the season for the Skyhawks, which passed the 2008-09 and 2007-08 UT Martin teams for the most in school history. Saturday’s win also matched the program’s win total from a year ago and put the Skyhawks in a 3 way tie for first place in the OVC alongside Morehead State and Little Rock at 12-4. UT Martin’s fifth straight victory also marked the longest in head coach Ryan Ridder’s three-year tenure.

Both Skyhawks squads will be in action Thursday when they play host to the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles.

Dalton Knecht scored 24 points and No. 5 Tennessee beat Texas A&M 86-51 on Saturday night to tie Alabama for the Southeastern Conference lead and give coach Rick Barnes his 800th Division I victory. The 69-year-old Barnes became the 14th coach to win 800 games at Division I schools.

Freshman Justin Edwards scored a season-high 28 points and Antonio Reeves added 24, leading No. 17 Kentucky to a 117-95 win over No. 13 Alabama.
