Discovery of Large Amount of Methamphetamine Leads to Arrest of Union City Man

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office reported the discovery of a large amount of methamphetamine following a traffic stop.

Sheriff’s reports said 48 year old Christopher L. Smith, of Union City, was arrested and issued charges of firearm enhanced first degree trafficking in controlled substance and second offense greater than two grams of methamphetamine.

On February 13th, an officer with the River2Rail drug task force was on duty on the Purchase Parkway in Fulton.

The officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by Smith, with the smell of marijuana observed.

Sheriff’s reports said a search of the vehicle resulted in the location of two zip lock bags in the console containing two pounds of suspected crystal methamphetamine.

The search also revealed a .380 caliber handgun, with additional charges of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon issued against Smith.
