Union City’s Middle School boys’ basketball team closed out its season with a bang.
School Communications Director Mike Hutchens said the Tornadoes claimed the Class A division championship of the Blue Suede Invitational Monday night with a thrilling 42-39 victory over Jackson Christian School at South Gibson County High School.
Kobe Maddox hit 10-of-10 free throws on his way to a game-high 20 points, as Union City rallied in the fourth quarter to win the title and finish their campaign with a (12-7) record.
Maddox was joined on the all-tournament squad by teammates Hollister Johnson, Will Kail, and Jack Theobald.
The Union City girls’ team ended its year with a runner-up showing, falling 43-34 to McKenzie in the championship game.
The Twister girls posted an (8-10) mark for the 2023-24 season.
Addy Launer, Alli McMillan, and Sophie Palmer were voted to the all-tourney team for Union City.
