Warming Center in Martin Needs Volunteers

Volunteers are needed to help staff a Respite Warming Center  Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday from 8 AM to 5 PM in Martin.

Organizer and spokesperson Joyce Washington said Martin Housing Authority is providing space at their community center at 120 Manley Street in Martin to help people stay warm.  Winter weather is expected to move in this weekend.

Sunday from 8-12 noon is staffed but other volunteers are needed to help staff the remaining hours. 

Weakley County Emergency Management Agency is providing some cots, blankets, pillows, water, and personal hygiene kits. Some food will be available.

Sign up shifts are available at the Martin Housing Authority.  Ms. Washington said without the volunteers the shelter can not stay open.

A sign up sheet is at the Martin Housing Authority on Manley Street. Volunteers can pick their time to help keep the doors open for community members stay to warm Sunday through Tuesday.
