Martin Luther King Celebrations

Martin Luther King Day takes place the third Monday every year, this year falling on his birthday. MLK was remembered for his Famous speeches and Marches during the civil rights movement, his nonviolent resistance to achieve equal rights for Black Americans earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.

Martin Luther King Day is a federal holiday, which means government agencies, banks, schools and many corporate offices will be closed for the day, and many local celebrations will be held in his honor.

The city of Martin and UT Martin will be having a Breakfast at the Martin Event Center that will feature a morning of good food, music, and fellowship.

Discovery Park in Union City will have special programming featuring the Lane College Choir starting at 11. With photos and video recordings of Dr. King displayed throughout the museum.

McKenzie will host a March in remembrance for the Civil Rights Leader beginning at 11am, starting at Webb School and ending in downtown McKenzie, community members and leaders are encouraged to participate.
