The UTM Women and Men’s basketball squads began their conference schedule with double header action on the road Thursday evening against Tennessee State on the road.
The Skyhawk women opened the evening, coming out of the gates with a strong first half, taking a 42 to 31 lead over the Tigers to the locker room. TSU attempted to rally and closed the gap, but UTM gutted it out to claim a 75 to 69 victory.
Head Coach Kevin McMillian predicted that the streaky nature of the Tigers play could throw his team off their game.
The Skyhawk Men put themselves in the lead early and carried an advantage in halftime 53 to 46 over the Tigers. UTM would widen the gap throughout the remainder of the contest to win 91 to 75.
Head Coach Ryan Ridder was proud of the team’s effort.
Both teams travel Saturday to face Tennessee Tech. Airtime will be 12:30 on WCMT-AM.
