History was made Saturday at Hardy Graham Stadium as the University of Tennessee at Martin football team cruised to at least a share of its third conference championship in a row after a 41-14 dismantling of Southeast Missouri.
In a collision of one-loss conference teams, the No. 16 ranked Skyhawks scored 27 unanswered points during one stretch to improve to 8-2 overall. UT Martin finishes its debut season in the Big South-OVC Football Association with a 5-1 record, which is a half-game ahead of Gardner-Webb atop the league standings.
The Skyhawks have now claimed a conference championship in three consecutive seasons for the first time in school history and fourth time as a member of the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision.
The Skyhawks end the 2023 regular season Saturday, Nov. 18th, when they travel to Samford out of the Southern Conference. Kickoff from Birmingham, Ala. is set for noon, airtime 11:30 on WCMT.
