Through five weeks of high school football, some teams are playoff contenders already while others try to work their way into the postseason picture.
Here is a look at how local teams rank in the region standings.
Region 7-1A – Dresden (5-0, 3-0) and Union City (3-2, 2-0) are unbeaten in league play. Greenfield (3-2, 2-1), Lake County (2-3, 2-1) and Gleason (4-1, 1-1) each have one region loss. South Fulton (2-3, 0-2), Humboldt (0-5, 0-2) and Halls (1-4, 0-3) are looking for their first region win.
Region 7-3A – Dyersburg (5-0, 3-0), Ripley (4-1, 3-0) and Westview (3-2, 2-0) are perfect in region games. Covington (3-2, 2-1) has one league loss. McNairy Central (1-4, 0-2), Scotts Hill (1-4, 0-2), Liberty (0-5, 0-2) and Bolivar (2-3, 0-3) are seeking their first region victory.
Region 7-4A – Haywood (4-1, 2-0) sits atop the league standings. Obion Central (4-1, 0-1) and Fayette-Ware (0-3, 0-1) both have one region loss. Crockett County (4-1) and Dyer County (2-3) begin region play this week.
Friday’s schedule includes mostly region games. In 7-1A, Gleason visits South Fulton, Union City plays at Greenfield and Lake County hosts Humboldt. Westview travels to Ripley in 7-3A action. Dresden and Obion Central step outside league play as the two teams meet at Dresden.
